That BLANK PAGE

That dreaded blank page that haunts many writers, artists and creatives in various forms.

I’m currently there.

I love drawing. Illustrating and crafting, that’s my thing. I love creating cute things and testing methods and just playing, basically. That how it feels when I’m in it. Playing for hours! Effortless and fun and abundant and peaceful and freeing (most of the time!)…

But it isn’t always effortless. Actually, when you’re NOT “in there”, in that lekker space (mostly because “life consists of other things too, you know”) and the gaps between sessions become bigger and bigger, you end up here.

The blank space.

It’s so much more than just a page or a canvas. It’s almost the inability to do what you used to.

Well, of course you can still draw, write, sing, perform, dance…

It’s just as if you almost forgot how and most importantly WHAT to create. Your gears are rusty and it’s hard to get it moving again. So you don’t. Because at first, you don’t need to. You never “need” to, right? Until you actually NEED to. You just feel full. You feel empty too. You want to burst because you don’t know what but there’s something that needs to be expressed. You want to play! You want to mess! You want to laugh, make mistakes, erase it, paint over it, pivot and keep it, love it, hate it… doesn’t matter, you just need to make something! Well, that’s how I feel at least.

I’m currently doing something unexpectedly creative and no, it didn’t cure me, it reawakened this urge to go splash some paint, cut some more paper, doodle, draw, whatever MORE! But just for me. Not for a goal or for a post or a project or an outcome, just for FUN.

I think for me it’s starting with doodling again. Simple and fun, but low stakes and nothing special required. A napkin in the coffee shop, my to do list, anything will do.
